IN LOVING MEMORY AND TRIBUTE: JERRY AXTELL
Born January 24, 1924. With God on September 28, 2000.
Jerry's life was a real testimony of his faith and love for God. He was blessed with many talents for bringing people to believing in Christ. He used his Roman outfit as a Centurion to bring the Good News and plan of salvation for all the people of this world, a world in Christ's time that was dominated by a strong Roman rule. For this reason, he became one of the original founders of Legio X Fretensis. When I joined him and Arild Barrett in Sacramento, they were confining their activities to a few local Church plays and school presentations. From this humble beginning the concept of making LXF a true non-profit, educational. living history organization was born.
Although Jerry never actually attended any of our LXF functions, he firmly believed in our purpose and he supported LXF with his paid membership and many words of encouragement. He made a beautiful LXF vexillum. He submitted several articles of interest to our newsletter. Most recently was his report on his trip to England. He contributed to the LXF Handbook, especially in the research for our LXF unit history. I owe a lot to him. I shall miss him dearly, but I know that he is with God now. He was content with the joy of his life and his love for his beautiful wife, Anne. He was proud of his three sons. He knew of his strange illness, and was ready to go home if the Lord so willed it. Well done my good and faithful servant.
Justis Aurelius was his Roman name. He served LXF as our Imperator. He was a centurion in rank. He was a highly skilled craftsman who made all his own armor. I wish to reprint a small selection from one of his reports to LXF. God bless you, Jerry, and your special loved ones.
