LAGOON VALLEY REPORT

We had so many interesting things happening at this event that it is very difficult to decide on what to write about and what photos to show. Therefore, please enjoy the photo gallery of "various scenes". On Saturday, we had a new potential recruit join is, Lloyd Wilson. He is a PE teacher at a Fairfield school. He really fits the physical body build of a typical Roman soldier.

Then there were our student volunteers. Ilyas Haus dressed up as a legionary for both days. He wore the Loma quite well. Also on both days we had the pleasure of enlisting Tracy Ireland. Her high interest and enthusiasm carried her into serving Caesar both in both the role of a Legionary and as a Saninite gladiator. Then on Sunday she brought her friend Shawna Krause. She served in the two roles as a Lcgionary and as a Thracian gladiator On Saturday we were short one person to serve as a gladiator, so I had to enlist a volunteer from the audience. This was Steve Shaw who served as a Thracian. Everyone said they had a good time in their respective roles.

Finally, we c had a rather pleasant developnicnt that occurred on Sunday. This was the arrival of Cindy Philippi. Cindy was quite instrumental in getting LXF to attend the Celtic Faire at Ardenwood We offered her the opporturim to dress up as a Roman lady. Well. she had to change the whole scene When it came tinic to introduce her is a travelling Roman lady she decided to change her role to that of being a household slave to the family house of'Centurio Marcus and Lady Lydia, in fact, the head slave of our household. Hmmm? She claims to be a proud independent Celtic woman whose husband, a Celtic warrior, was recently killed by the Romans She was captured, sold into slavery, and purchased by Praetorian Gaius Germanicus. Then, she was transported to Jerusalem as a personal gift to us.

Well, this had certainly created a whole new scenario for all of us. Shown here is our new household slave, Auriane, attending to the needs of Lady Lydia Since then, we have decided to get together a strange tale of a lost love beween a very young legionary Marcus and Hilde, a young Celtic woman of great beauty. Celtic pride and hatred of the Romans by Hilde's parents prevent their union in a marriage Marcus leaves for Judaea and transfers to LXF. never to see Hilde again. Unknown to him is the fact that Hilde carries his child. She dies in giving birth to Auriane Darrath enters upon the scene as the new child's aunt. The story really gets complicated now. You will just have to wait and see how we decide to present this tale of love and tragedy, which we plan to do at the next LXF event at Ardenwood in June, 2001.

BETHLEHEM VILLAGE DECEMBER 21, 22, and 23

This special event will be our next LXF involvement in a unique Christmas pageant presented in Redwood City. Full details and map directions will be coming out in a special edition of' the LXF Newsletter in November/December. We recently attended a special meeting and BBQ party at the Bethlehem site A LXF camp is definitely a part of their plans. There is also the possibility of being allowed to construct a Roman barrack room for the 2001 event. This event is truly a unique experience to serve as a Roman soldier doing his duty to Augustus Caesar. during the tinic of his order for a census and tax collecting from the local villagers Hail Caesar! But please keep it in mind the real reason for celebrating the Christmas season Here you will see the real meaning of Christ's birth.
