Mounted Caracalla on the Reverse of a Denarius

With the military cloak from which he derived his nickname flowing behind him, Caracalla rides down an enemy on his well - muscled war horse. In his right hand, he holds a spear and in his left are the reins. Significantly, there are no stirrups on his saddle. Western Europe did not see the introduction of the saddle until well after the Classical Age had ended.
