Reverse of a Geta Denarius Depicting Castor

Castor was one of the Heavenly Twins, Castor and Pollux. They were legendary protectors of Rome and were somewhat patron deities of the Equestrian Class in Roman Society. In this image, Castor holds the bridle of a well - proportioned war horse who looks every bit ready for the coming fray. Note the excellent modeling in the horse's legs.
