Camp Gate Reverse of Constantine II

This nice example of a camp gate type struck in the name of Constantine II depicts the young man facing left wearing a cuirass. The lack of a diadem on his head and the obverse legend indicate that he is still a caesar and that the coin can be dated prior to AD 337.

The camp gate device alluded to the strength of the Roman army and the protection it afforded the Roman people against attack by foreign invaders.
