Bust of Gallienus on an Antoninianus

By the end of the reign of Gallienus in A. D.268, there was little silver left in the antoninianus save a light silver wash on the newly minted coins. The artistic quality of the coins had reached a dismal low in general, although there are a few coin portraits of this emperor in the author's collection that are quite handsome. This example is by no means the worst of the lot, with its well - modeled facial features.
