Roman Republican Denarius - Equestrian Statue Upon Arches Reverse

The obverse of this coin features the image of Roma laureate and diademmed rather than the more usual helmeted head of Roma on denarii of this period. Another interesting detail on this coin, barely noticeable in the image due to the dark patina is the ligate M and A in the word ROMA. It was fairly common during the Republican period to combine the letters in an inscription in this ligate form.
