The Barbaricum

The Barbaricum is a series of short articles on several
of the peoples living on the borders of the Roman Empire.
Called "Barbarians" by the Romans, they occupied lands in
The Barbaricum, the lands beyond Rome's borders.
The Barbaricum was a land shrouded in mystery for most
Romans. Long considered an uncivilized land where few
Romans dared to venture.

Mike Lewis, a lover of Roman history and a Roman military
reenactor like the author of the rest of this site has
kindly furnished the introductory article of this series
and has stated that more articles are forthcoming. This
article first appeared in an issue of the newsletter of
Legio X Fretensis, a reenactment group in which
the author and Mr. Lewis share membership.
