Lituus

The lituus was the curved wand used by the Roman pagan priests known as augurs, whose job it was to determine if a person’s future plans would be blessed by the gods. It usually appears on coins in conjunction with a simpulum and a jug from which libations are poured out. Libatons were drink offerings to the gods, and the simpulum was a sacrificial ladle.
