Brass Sestertius of Trajan Decius

The personnification of the province of Dacia is depicted on the reverse of this Sestertius of Trajan Decius. The staff held by Dacia is a standard topped with an ass's head, and is believed to be the standard of the Dacian legions at that time. The Province of Dacia was an especially good recruiting ground for soldiers in the Roman legions throughout the history of the Roman Empire and especially so during the Third Century.
